A Walk through the Holyland

No I didn’t take off for the Middle East again... Yet. However there is an area in Belfast that I had been hearing about over the past week and needed to see for myself. It’s named the Holyland for its street names, which include Palestine, Jerusalem, Damascus, Cairo, and Camel Streets.

The neighborhood is located only a few blocks southwest of where I live and is home to a large off-campus Queen’s student population. The houses, like mine, are in the same Victorian terraced style and they were built in the early 20th century.

Each of the units has a small bricked-in patio in front of their bay window where the students are often found socializing. It is rumored that this area finds any excuse to host very popular house parties not unlike Dinkytown in Minneapolis or Mifflin in Madison.
